Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday apprised the corps commanders of ‘di
fficult’ economic measures taken by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government to im
prove and strengthen the country’s economy, according to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
“Pakistan is on a positive trajectory of peace and development and shall carry forward the same towards enduring peace and prosperity,” the COAS said while chairing the 222nd corps commanders’ conference at the GHQ. “COAS apprised the forum of di
fficult but extremely essential long term beneficial measures taken by the government for improving and strengthening national economy,” the ISPR statement said.
“Geo-strategic, regional and national security environment including India, Afghanistan, Iran, ongoing internal secur
ity operations and action
s against proscribed organisations were also discussed,” the statement added.
The statement comes weeks after the government included the army chief in the National Development Council (NDC), formed to accelerate economic growth and im
prove coordination among the provinces and the federation. The newly-formed body is mandated to set policies and chalk out strategies fo
r development and also provide guidelines for improving regional cooperation.
